UN Passes Five Resolutions on Palestine, Extends UNRWA Mandate

GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The UN General Assembly overwhelmingly adopted five resolutions in support of Palestine on Friday, including the renewal of UNRWA’s mandate.

The votes reflected broad international backing for the Palestinian people’s rights and humanitarian needs.

The first resolution, focused on assistance to Palestinian refugees, passed with the support of 151 countries, while 10 voted against and 14 abstained.

A second resolution, renewing UNRWA’s mandate for three years and addressing its operations, was backed by 145 countries, opposed by 10, with 18 abstentions.

A third resolution concerning the property of Palestinian refugees and revenues coming from it gained even stronger support, with 157 countries in favor, 10 against, and 9 abstentions.

Meanwhile, a fourth resolution on the work of the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People and Other Arabs of the Occupied Territories was adopted with 88 votes in favor, 19 against, and 64 abstentions.

The fifth resolution addressed illegal Jewish settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, including east Jerusalem and the occupied Syrian Golan. It passed with 146 votes in favor, underscoring continued global opposition to settlement expansion.

UNRWA commissioner‑general Philippe Lazzarini welcomed the strong backing for the agency’s mandate, describing the vote as a reflection of broad global solidarity with Palestine refugees.

He emphasized that the resolution acknowledged the international community’s responsibility to meet the Palestinian refugees’ humanitarian and development needs, calling for translating this overwhelming support for Palestine into concrete commitments and adequate resources to ensure the mandate is fulfilled.
