UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has strongly condemned recent Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip that resulted in numerous civilian casualties, including many children.
His spokesman Stephane Dujarric told a news conference on Wednesday that the secretary-general strongly condemns Israel’s recent airstrikes in Gaza that killed dozens of civilians in Gaza, including many children.
Dujarric added that Guterres also “condemns all actions that undermine the ceasefire and endanger civilian lives.”
The UN secretary-general stressed “the importance of the parties and renewed assurances to implement the ceasefire,” emphasizing that these “commitments must be upheld in full” and that “any acts that risk harm to civilians or obstruct humanitarian operations must be avoided.”
The UN chief’s statement came in response to reports of Israeli military attacks that violated the ceasefire agreement announced on October 10. According to Gaza’s health ministry, these renewed attacks have killed more than 100 Palestinians since Tuesday evening, including 52 children, with an additional 253 people injured.
On Wednesday evening, another Israeli attack on al-Atatira area of northern Gaza killed two civilians.
The Israeli occupation army also carried out several airstrikes at dawn Thursday targeting areas east of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza and demolished homes in Gaza City, further violating the ceasefire agreement.
In a related context, Gaza’s Government Media Office (GMO) in Gaza on Wednesday evening accused the Israeli occupation regime of “justifying its crimes against civilians through ‘false and misleading narratives’ following its horrific massacre that claimed the lives of 109 Palestinians, including 52 children and 23 women, within just 12 hours.”
In a statement on Wednesday, GMO said that the overnight Israeli attacks on Gaza on Tuesday reflected “unprecedented brutality.”
“The Israeli occupation has circulated a list of names and photos of individuals allegedly killed in its latest assault. However, verification revealed the list to be ‘fabricated,’ containing fictitious and duplicated names and even people still alive in an attempt to justify the killings and construct a media narrative aligned with its political and military objectives,” GMO underlined.
“Instead of adhering to international humanitarian law, the Israeli occupation continues to target residential neighborhoods, hospitals, schools, and shelters under the pretext of retaliation or self-defense. However, casualty figures clearly show that the victims are overwhelmingly children, women, elderlies, and people with disabilities,” GMO said.
GMO held the Israeli government and the countries supporting it fully responsible for the ongoing “genocide” in the Gaza Strip.
GMO called on the international community and the UN Security Council to take immediate action to halt Israel’s aggression, hold those responsible accountable, and expose disinformation campaigns aimed at distorting facts and whitewashing the image of the aggressor.
