GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Nikolay Mladenov, the High Representative for Gaza at the Peace Council, described conditions in the Gaza Strip as “extremely dire,” revealing that a comprehensive framework for disarmament and the reintegration of armed groups is currently under discussion with relevant parties.
In his first briefing to the UN Security Council, Mladenov said the situation in Gaza saw limited improvement following the first phase of the ceasefire on October 10, 2025, but stressed that overall conditions remain severely deteriorated.
Speaking during a session on Middle East developments, including Palestine, he warned against sidelining Gaza amid escalating regional conflicts, particularly following US and Israeli attacks on Iran.
He noted that basic services in Gaza are operating at only a fraction of their pre-war capacity, while the healthcare system is near collapse and economic activity is virtually nonexistent.
He called for keeping the Rafah crossing open and facilitating the movement of people and goods.
On humanitarian aid, Mladenov stressed the need to raise assistance to agreed levels under the ceasefire deal and to accelerate solutions for temporary shelter for displaced people.
