UNICEF: Two Palestinian Children Killed Daily in Gaza Despite Ceasefire

GENEVA, (The Palestine Foundation Pakistan)

Israel continues to kill an average of two children per day in the Gaza Strip despite the ceasefire that took effect on 11 October, the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) said on Friday.

Ricardo Pires, UNICEF spokesperson, told reporters during his weekly press briefing at the United Nations office in Geneva that the death of a young girl in an Israeli strike on Khan Yunis on Thursday, along with the killing of seven children a day earlier in Gaza City, shows that the ceasefire has not ended children’s suffering.

He said at least 67 children have been killed since the ceasefire began, in addition to dozens who have been wounded.

“These figures are not just numbers, they are children with families and dreams,” Pires stressed, describing the conditions facing Gaza’s children as “forced, bleak, and devoid of any safe place.” He urged the international community to stop normalizing their ongoing suffering.

Pires added that UNICEF’s extensive operations in Gaza remain insufficient to meet the scale of the crisis. “If aid arrived with the speed and volume required, we could do far more to save lives,” he said.

According to UNICEF, hundreds of thousands of children are living in tents with no basic protection, facing harsh winter conditions without heating, insulation, or blankets, conditions that severely worsen their humanitarian situation and expose them to cold and disease.
