NEW YORK (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, said that the number of UNRWA employees killed during the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip has exceeded 300.
Lazarini added in a press statement on Sunday that “the vast majority of staff were killed by the Israeli army along with their children and loved ones, while many were killed while in the line of duty while serving their communities.”
He explained that “most of the dead UNRWA staff were health workers and teachers who support their communities.”
Lazarini stressed that nothing justifies the crimes in Gaza and that impunity will lead to more killings.
The Israeli occupation forces renewed their aggression against the Gaza Strip at dawn on March 18, 2025, with airstrikes across the Gaza Strip, killing more than 3,193 civilians and injuring 8,993 others, in violation of a ceasefire agreement with Hamas and resistance factions, which lasted about 60 days after it was brokered by the US, Egypt, and Qatar.
With US support, the Israeli occupation army has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, leaving more than 171,000 dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 14,000 missing.
