NEW YORK (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), warned on Thursday of “the possibility of a cholera outbreak in the Gaza Strip in light of clean water shortage and high temperatures.”
UNRWA explained in a post on X that “with minimal access to clean water in the Gaza Strip and extreme summer heat, there is a risk of disease outbreaks and drought.”
The UN agency added, “There is a real concern that cholera may become prevalent, further deteriorating inhumane living conditions”, stressing that “the people of Gaza need an immediate ceasefire.”
The Israeli genocide war on Gaza, which has been ongoing since October 7 last year, left more than 119,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and about 10,000 others missing amid massive destruction and famine that claimed the lives of dozens.
