OCCUPIED JERUSALEM (Palestine Foundation Information Center) Palestinian and international doctors called on Tuesday for urgent evacuation of 25,000 wounded and sick people from the Gaza Strip to Jerusalem’s hospitals through opening the humanitarian corridor between the two regions.
During a press conference at the Augusta Victoria Hospital in East Jerusalem, the doctors said their calls came as the Israeli ongoing genocide has rendered most of the enclave’s medical facilities out of service.
Based on estimates, 25,000 people in Gaza are in need of life-saving medical treatment due to their critical conditions, the doctors added.
Dr. Guy Shalev, executive director of Physicians for Human Rights, called for international support, asserting that “The suffering in Gaza cannot be ignored. The reopening of the humanitarian corridor is the only sustainable solution to the medical emergency that is costing lives daily.”
Speakers at the conference recommended following three key steps to address the crisis:
First, the establishment of safe medical evacuation routes to ensure that the patient can reach hospitals in East Jerusalem, the West Bank, or any other countries.
Second, ensuring families travel together for treatment, especially children.
Third, supporting the right of evacuated Palestinians to return to Gaza once medical treatment is completed, without forcing them to choose between their health and homeland.
