West Bank sees surge in Israeli military raids and detentions

WEST BANK, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The Israeli occupation forces intensified on Monday evening their incursions and raids across several cities and towns in the West Bank. These military incursions involved home raids, arrests, and movement restrictions.

In Occupied Jerusalem, large Israeli forces stormed Shuafat refugee camp and deployed across its streets and neighborhoods, firing stun grenades and tear gas. Local sources reported home raids and physical assaults on residents, creating widespread tension, though no injuries or arrests had been confirmed at the time of reporting. Such incursions are frequent, as part of a broader policy of pressure on Palestinian Jerusalemites.

North of Ramallah, Israeli forces damaged several vehicles, including an ambulance, at the Ein Siniya military checkpoint. The Israeli forces reportedly placed a “spike strip” in front of a municipal ambulance, puncturing its tires and damaging others passing the same way. They also closed the Atara checkpoint, causing a major traffic jam.

Later on the same evening, the Israeli forces stormed the town of Beitunia, west of Ramallah, firing live bullets, stun grenades, and tear gas. No injuries or arrests were reported.

In the northern West Bank, Israeli forces arrested a young Palestinian man from the town of Aqaba near Tubas. Witnesses said he was summoned for questioning at Salem military camp near Jenin, only to be detained upon arrival, with no charges disclosed.

This comes amid an uptick in raids and summonses in the Tubas area, with frequent military incursions, arrests, and crackdowns on residents. Human rights groups have repeatedly called for an end to such violations and the release of the detainees.

Separately, the Palestinian Red Crescent reported that on Monday evening, a Palestinian man was critically wounded by Israeli gunfire in the town of al-Ram, northeast of Occupied Jerusalem. The 35-year-old man was shot in the chest while attempting to cross the apartheid wall and was taken to the hospital in serious condition. Earlier the same day, another man was shot in the foot near the same barrier.

Such incidents are frequent, with Israeli forces regularly opening fire on Palestinian workers and civilians trying to cross the wall to reach their workplaces in Occupied Jerusalem and within the Green Line.

Since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza in October 2023, the West Bank has witnessed a sharp escalation in violence. Israeli forces and settlers have killed at least 1,105 Palestinians, wounded around 11,000, and detained nearly 21,000 people, according to Palestinian organizations.
