WEST BANK, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), A Palestinian young man was killed by Israeli army gunfire late Sunday night in the town of Dura, south of al-Khalil, while two others were injured in separate incidents in Tulkarem and the town of al-Ram, north of Occupied Jerusalem, amid ongoing escalation in the West Bank.
The Israeli army claimed in a statement that its forces shot a young man in Dura after identifying him as “armed with a knife” and running toward them, adding that he was “neutralized.”
It also said that in a separate incident in al-Ram, the Israeli forces opened fire on a person driving “in a manner that posed a threat,” adding that no soldiers were injured.
In Tulkarem Governorate, a Palestinian man was wounded by Israeli gunfire on Monday morning near the “Anab” military checkpoint east of Anabta after allegedly attempting a car-ramming attack. Witnesses reported that Israeli forces fired at a civilian vehicle as it passed near the checkpoint.
The Palestinian Red Crescent said Israeli forces prevented its crews from reaching the injured man, while also closing the checkpoint gate and forcing vehicles to turn back, causing a complete traffic shutdown in the area.
Israeli media reported that Israeli troops opened fire on a Palestinian near Tulkarem on suspicion of a car-ramming attempt. A military spokesperson said soldiers identified a vehicle accelerating toward them “in a dangerous manner” before shooting the driver and “neutralizing” him.
This comes amid ongoing escalation in the West Bank since the start of the war on Gaza on October 8, 2023, with increased Israeli military and settler attacks, including killings, arrests, demolitions, and settlement expansion.
According to Palestinian data, the escalation has resulted in the killing of 1,137 Palestinians, the injury of around 11,700 others, and the arrest of nearly 22,000 people.
