GAZA(Palestine Foundation Information Center) WHO spokesperson Margaret Harris said many field hospitals in the Gaza Strip are no longer functional.
In press statements on Thursday evening, Harris added that medical teams are moving with great difficulty in Gaza due to the bombardment and are exposed to grave risks.
She explained that the UN organization is working under extremely difficult conditions in the Gaza Strip, whereas the violence it faces makes it difficult to perform its mission.
“We only have 20 emergency teams of volunteers from around the world working in Gaza, and this number is not enough in light of the circumstances the Strip is experiencing,” she elaborated.
Harris stressed that the health system in the Gaza Strip is witnessing unprecedented conditions, affecting health sector workers, and medical teams who are greatly affected by such pressure as well as by the Israeli relentless airstrikes targeting places where civilians receive treatment, which necessitates exerting extremely exhausting efforts.
She pointed out that there are only three hospitals operating partially in the Strip, and they need more oxygen and medical supplies to continue their work for the sake of providing first aid to the most critical cases.
The WHO spokeswoman indicated that the health system in the Strip faces many restrictions and ongoing bombing and shelling, which has completely knocked most hospitals out of service.
According to the Government Media Office in Gaza (GMO), the Israeli occupation army has knocked out 34 out of 36 hospitals out of service due to the Israeli direct targeting of health facilities.
The GMO Director, Ismail Al-Thawabtah, condemned the Israeli occupation army’s bombing of Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital on Thursday evening, stressing that it aims at completely taking the entire health system out of service in the Gaza Strip by destroying it through direct targeting.
Al-Thawabtah said the Israeli occupation army has targeted Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital for the fourth time in a row, noting that it is the only government hospital operating in the Gaza Strip and is serving more than one million people.
He held the US administration responsible for the continuation of the Israeli war of genocide against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
He further pointed out that the Israeli occupation army has been banning more than 25,000 sick and wounded Gazans from travelling abroad for treatment.
