GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Damaged homes in Gaza are no longer only signs of the destruction left by war. They have become a direct threat to residents and displaced families, as continued explosions, gunfire and structural damage increase the risk of collapse.
As forced displacement continues, Palestinian families are again being pushed to leave their shelters and search for alternatives amid a worsening housing crisis and growing dangers facing both cracked buildings and worn-out tents.
The warnings come as Israeli violations of the ceasefire continue, particularly in eastern Gaza, where residential areas are exposed to explosions and gunfire that worsen damage to already weakened buildings.
According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, based on a satellite assessment by UNOSAT, 201,290 buildings in Gaza had been damaged by June 16, 2026, around 82% of all buildings in the Strip. The figure includes 134,422 destroyed buildings and 13,848 severely damaged buildings, while around 328,627 housing units were affected.
Gaza’s Civil Defense warned on Monday of the danger of collapsing cracked homes in eastern areas of the Strip, alongside rising forced displacement and damage to hundreds of tents caused by Israeli explosions and random gunfire.
It said daily explosions and shooting had repeatedly displaced dozens of families and damaged homes and tents, especially in the Shujaiya, Tuffah and Zeitoun neighborhoods east of Gaza City, around Bani Suheila roundabout, east of Hamad City towers, and in eastern Khan Yunis.
The Civil Defense expressed deep concern over escalating displacement, particularly around the so-called “Yellow Line” in eastern Gaza, warning that continued Israeli attacks are forcing thousands of displaced people to search again for shelter despite limited options and unsafe conditions.
The warning came as Israeli ceasefire violations continued. On Sunday, five Palestinians, including a child who died of earlier wounds, were killed and others injured in 18 reported Israeli violations.
Between homes at risk of collapse and tents damaged by fire and explosions, Gaza’s residents face mounting danger amid repeated displacement. The situation highlights the urgent need to stop attacks, secure safe shelter, assess damaged buildings and address risks threatening civilian lives.
