Deadly café bombing in Damascus draws condemnation from Hamas

DAMASCUS, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The Hamas Movement has condemned the bombing of a café in the Syrian capital, Damascus, which killed and wounded several people.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Movement denounced the targeting of civilians and the terrorizing of residents, describing the attack as a crime by every measure that served only efforts to spread chaos and undermine security and stability.

Hamas extended its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to Syria’s leadership, government and people.

It also wished the wounded a swift recovery and expressed hope that the victims’ families would be granted patience and strength.

The Movement affirmed its full solidarity with Syria in confronting the attack and expressed confidence in the Syrian people’s ability to overcome the ordeal and preserve the country’s security and stability.

At least nine people were killed and 22 others wounded on Thursday when an explosive device planted inside a café detonated on Al-Nasr Street, near the Palace of Justice in central Damascus.

No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing, which was the deadliest attack in Damascus since a suicide bombing targeted a church in the Dweilaa district a year earlier, killing 25 people.
