GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas, recently released a video as part of its ongoing documentary series “Aqmar al-Tawfan” (Moons of the Flood), focusing on the life story of martyr Omar Majdi Saada, a fighter with the Martyr Nidal Nasser Battalion affiliated with the Northern Brigade in Beit Hanoun, northern Gaza Strip.
The video documents a military operation carried out by Saada against a force from the Israeli army’s Netzah Yehuda unit inside the Gaza Strip. According to the material released by the Al-Qassam Brigades, the video covers the stages of reconnaissance and planning to target the force before it was lured into a minefield containing explosive devices.
The Brigades said the operation resulted in five Israeli soldiers being killed and 20 others wounded. The video also shows part of the confrontation in which Saada engaged the targeted force in direct armed combat before being killed.
Documentary Record and Psychological Warfare
The footage is part of the “Aqmar al-Tawfan” series, through which Al-Qassam’s military media documents the stories of fighters who were killed during field operations, focusing on the circumstances and military details of the operations, according to the Brigades.
The productions have emerged in the context of the war that began following the Al-Aqsa Flood operation on October 7, 2023, when Palestinian factions led by Hamas launched a large-scale attack on Israeli military posts and settlements surrounding the Gaza Strip.
The series combines documentation of the martyrs’ battlefield activities with aspects of their personal and family backgrounds, focusing on several key dimensions:
Field and operational documentation: Previously unreleased details and behind-the-scenes accounts of ambushes, targeting operations and attacks on Israeli military vehicles, highlighting the role each fighter played in carrying out these operations.
Testaments and exclusive footage: Visual recordings left by fighters before departing for what are described as martyrdom or attack operations, along with footage showing preparations, equipment and weapons supplies inside tunnels and above ground.
Social background and upbringing: The series examines different stages of the fighters’ lives within the Brigades, including their organizational affiliation and the field brigade to which they belonged, such as the Northern Brigade or battalions based in cities and refugee camps, in an effort to highlight their social and military backgrounds.
Media messaging: The series is used as a tool in the psychological and media campaign against Israel, reaffirming Al-Qassam’s stated determination to continue fighting while documenting reported Israeli military casualties through visual evidence, names and battlefield details.
