GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The Arab International Authority for Reconstruction in Palestine announced on Tuesday the launch of the first phase of a comprehensive damage assessment project in the Gaza Strip, in coordination with the Palestinian government, as part of efforts to respond to the aftermath of Israel’s genocide and the urgent need for accurate, nationwide documentation of destruction.
In a statement, the authority said the project aims to establish a unified, reliable national database to assess damage across Gaza. The initial phase will focus on the housing sector, which has suffered the most extensive destruction, with plans to later expand the assessment to include infrastructure, water and sanitation, health, education, public facilities, and archaeological sites.
The authority said the project will support emergency relief efforts and long-term reconstruction planning by providing precise data on the scale and distribution of damage.
It added that the initiative is based on a scientific methodology and international standards, supported by advanced technologies including geographic information systems (GIS), spatial analysis, and interactive dashboards designed to generate accurate indicators for decision-makers at all stages.
According to the statement, a successful field pilot was carried out in the vicinity of the Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza City, demonstrating the efficiency and accuracy of the adopted system in documenting damage.
The authority confirmed that the first phase will be implemented using an approved interactive mapping framework, with the participation of national engineering and technical teams and in cooperation with relevant ministries and institutions, to ensure unified efforts, integrated data, and the avoidance of duplication.
It stressed that reconstruction is a comprehensive national pathway aimed at restoring life and strengthening the resilience of Palestinians, reaffirming its commitment to transparency and professionalism while working alongside the Palestinian people and in coordination with all partners to achieve genuine and sustainable recovery.
