Gaza Hospitals Face Shutdown as Generator Engine Oil Runs Out

GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The Palestinian Health Ministry warned on Thursday that electricity generators at hospitals and healthcare facilities across the Gaza Strip are at risk of sudden shutdown due to a complete depletion of engine oil supplies, stressing that continued operation under such conditions could cause severe engine damage and complete burnout.

In a press statement, the ministry said engineering teams were working under complex technical conditions, continuously monitoring generators and attempting to keep them running to ensure electricity supplies to critical hospital departments.

The ministry explained that prolonged strain on the generators, which have operated for thousands of hours without adequate engine oil or necessary maintenance, has brought them to a critical stage where mechanical failure could occur at any moment.

It warned that if the generators’ engines burn out due to the lack of oil, they could become permanently inoperable, even if engine oil supplies are restored later, further threatening the continued operation of healthcare facilities.

The Health Ministry renewed its urgent appeal to all relevant parties to intervene immediately and provide the necessary supplies.

It stressed that the danger now extends beyond the shortage of engine oil, warning that Gaza’s remaining electricity generators face complete failure, potentially jeopardizing hospitals’ ability to maintain essential medical services in critical departments.
