Gaza researcher detained by Israeli forces en route to Italy

GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) kidnaped a Palestinian academic researcher from the Gaza Strip at the Kerem Abu Salem border crossing.

The researcher, who is the sole survivor of his family, was en route to Italy to pursue his university studies after finally obtaining a travel permit following months of attempts.

According to a family source on Tuesday, the IOF kidnaped Dr. Mahmoud an‑Najjar and took him to an unknown location without informing his relatives of any details regarding his fate or whereabouts, raising serious concerns about his safety.

The sources explained that Tor Vergata University in Italy was awaiting his arrival to resume his higher medical studies, a step he hoped would allow him to later return and serve the people of Gaza.

Najjar lost his wife, Alaa Salem, and their four children, Rinat, Yazan, Mohamed, and Amr, as well as several other relatives in an Israeli airstrike that targeted their home on October 25, 2024.

Despite this devastating loss, Najjar managed to complete and publish three scientific studies and finally secure a chance to leave Gaza to pursue his education abroad, only to be arrested by Israeli forces at the border.
