Hamas

Ghazi Hamad: US Has Power to Enforce Gaza Ceasefire but Remains Silent

DOHA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Hamas official Ghazi Hamad has called for serious Arab, Islamic and international action to compel Israel to implement the Gaza ceasefire agreement, warning that continued violations threaten to collapse the deal and renew the war.

Speaking on Al-Jazeera’s “The Rest of the Story” on Monday evening, Hamad said Palestinians in Gaza had not been spared mass killing during the war or even during ceasefire periods. He said what is needed now is not condemnation statements, but practical pressure forcing Israel to abide by what was agreed upon.

Hamad accused Israel of rejecting peace and stability and preferring “war and destruction,” saying developments in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon and Syria show that Israel is the party destabilizing the region.

He said Hamas had made major efforts to end the war in coordination with Palestinian political forces, mediators, the US administration and other parties. He added that the Movement had taken “major steps and concessions” to reach an agreement that would stop the war and save Palestinians.

Hamad said Palestinians and Palestinian political forces had done everything possible to reach a ceasefire agreement, which was sponsored by the US administration and mediating countries. He said responsibility now lies with the sponsors to ensure its implementation.

He argued that Washington “can force the occupation to comply with the ceasefire agreement, but is watching what is happening without doing anything.” He warned that this approach could lead to the agreement’s collapse.

Hamad also criticized talk of waiting for Israeli election results before addressing the situation in Gaza, calling it “illogical and unacceptable,” saying such waiting would mean more deaths, hunger, displacement and killing.

He called for a serious Arab, Islamic and international stance, including sanctions on Israel, and urged the US and mediators who backed the ceasefire agreement to compel Israel to implement its terms.

His remarks come amid continuing Israeli violations of the Gaza ceasefire, which took effect on October 11, 2025. Gaza’s Health Ministry said on October 4, 2026, that 1,454 Palestinians had been killed and 5,090 injured since the ceasefire began, in addition to 835 bodies recovered from under the rubble.
