Beirut (Palestine Foundation Information Center), A high-level delegation from the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas, headed by Ali Baraka, head of the movement’s National Relations Abroad Department and envoy of the head of its Political Bureau, met with a delegation from the leadership of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) in the Lebanese capital Beirut. Hamas representative in Lebanon, Ahmad Abdul Hadi, was also present at the meeting.
According to a statement issued by the PFLP, its delegation included Marwan Abdel Aal, Haitham Abdo, and Abdullah Al-Dannan. The two sides held detailed discussions on the latest political developments and the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.
The meeting also addressed the economic and security conditions of Palestinian refugees living in refugee camps in Lebanon, as well as ways to address the challenges facing Palestinians under the current circumstances.
During the meeting, the Hamas delegation praised the PFLP’s efforts aimed at safeguarding the Palestinian cause, promoting national unity, and rebuilding the political system on the basis of partnership.
In a joint statement, the two sides strongly condemned Israel’s crimes and attacks in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and occupied Jerusalem. They called on mediators, the international community, and the United Nations to intervene immediately to halt the aggression and provide international protection to the Palestinian people.
The two sides also condemned US aggression against Iran and Israel’s successive attacks on Syria and Lebanon, describing them as serious violations of sovereignty and a threat to regional stability.
The two sides stressed the right of Palestinian refugees living in the diaspora to democratically elect their representatives to the Palestinian National Council and firmly rejected the policy of appointments and expulsions.
The participants emphasized the importance of launching comprehensive national dialogue to reach agreement on a unified strategy for confronting the conflict and breaking the siege. They also reaffirmed their commitment to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and categorically rejected all attempts to terminate the agency or undermine its services.
The participants called for the establishment of a unified Palestinian body in Lebanon to unite Palestinian ranks and coordinate with the Lebanese state, with the aim of safeguarding security in the refugee camps and protecting the rights of Palestinian refugees.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants stressed that national unity and partnership constitute the fundamental means of safeguarding the Palestinian cause and confronting the challenges facing the Palestinian people.
