Hamas calls for holding Israel accountable for its crimes against Palestinian journalists

GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Hamas Movement said on Tuesday that the Israeli occupation army proves every day that it is the most prominent enemy of the Palestinian press, by directly targeting Palestinian journalists, in an effort to put out the voice of the truth and conceal its crimes against the Palestinian people.

Hamas added in a press statement on the occasion of the Day of Loyalty to the Palestinian Journalist, which falls on December 31 of each year, that this day represents an opportunity to honor Palestinian journalists who risk their lives to convey the Palestinian narrative and reveal the Israeli crimes and aggressions, noting that 201 Palestinian journalists were killed by Israeli occupation army.

The Movement emphasized that the Palestinian journalists played a pivotal role in exposing the Israeli false accounts, and in conveying the image of the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and the heroism of the resistance in the face of the ongoing Israeli aggression, especially in the Gaza Strip, which has been subjected to a genocidal war and a suffocating siege for many years.

It called on human rights and humanitarian institutions to continue their efforts to hold the Israeli occupation leaders accountable for committing horrific crimes against Palestinian journalists, and to work to protect them and enable them to conduct their noble mission, stressing the need to adopt a media honor charter that guarantees a safe environment for journalists and preserves their rights.

The Movement concluded its statement by saluting the Palestinian journalists who persist in playing their heroic role in conveying the truth about the Palestinian reality to the world, stressing that Israeli crimes will not succeed in absenting their role or silencing their free voice.

Since the start of the Israeli genocidal war on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, journalists in the Gaza Strip have not been spared the killing and targeting at the hands of the Israeli occupation army, as more than two hundred journalists were martyred, which exceeds the number of journalists who were killed in the Second World War, which lasted for about six years.

Since October 7, 2023, the death toll among journalists and media workers surged to 201, and the number of wounded reached 399, while the number of identified detainee mounted to 43, according to a statement by the Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip on December 29.

Reporters Without Borders recently ranked Gaza as the bloodiest area for journalists this year, as Israeli occupation forces killed more than 30% of the total journalists there.
