BEIRUT, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), At least seven people were martyred and several others wounded in Israeli strikes across Lebanon on Sunday and Monday, as Israel continued to violate the ceasefire and rejected provisions reportedly linking Lebanon to a broader US-Iran agreement.
Lebanon’s Health Ministry said five people were martyred Sunday in Israeli attacks on Beirut’s southern suburbs and southern Lebanon. Three were killed in two strikes on the Ghobeiry area, while two others were killed and three wounded in attacks across the south.
On Monday, two more people were martyred in an Israeli strike on a house in Ghassaniyeh, while others were wounded when a vehicle was targeted in Kfar Tebnit.
Israeli occupation forces also carried out a demolition operation in the southern town of Khiam.
The latest attacks came despite a ceasefire that took effect on April 17. Lebanon’s Health Ministry said Israeli attacks since March 2 have killed 3,783 people and wounded 11,699.
The escalation also followed reports of a US-Iran agreement to halt military operations on all fronts and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The New York Times, citing officials familiar with the agreement, said its provisions included Lebanon.
Israeli media, however, reported that Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu told US president Donald Trump that Israel did not consider itself bound by the Lebanon provision.
Netanyahu reportedly said Israeli forces would remain inside Lebanese territory and continue military operations under the pretext of confronting Hezbollah threats.
Maariv said the call between Netanyahu and Trump was tense because of the former’s insistence on continuing attacks on Lebanon.
