GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The Hamas Movement said Israel’s bombing and destruction of the water desalination plant in Gaza City’s Sheikh Radwan neighborhood, along with attacks on displaced Palestinians and their tents, represents a continuation of the genocide, the destruction of Gaza’s basic means of survival, and a violation of the ceasefire agreement.
Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem said on Monday that targeting the water plant, intensifying attacks on overcrowded displacement areas, and destroying tents demonstrate the continuation of a displacement plan despite the ceasefire agreement.
Qassem said the ongoing attacks showed complete disregard for the ceasefire, stressing that the destruction of the Sheikh Radwan desalination plant constituted a direct violation of the agreement.
Israeli warplanes targeted the desalination plant and a nearby prayer hall north of Gaza City on Monday, completely destroying both.
The destruction of the desalination plant further aggravates Gaza’s water crisis, with the territory facing a water deficit of more than 60%. Daily water production has fallen from approximately 300,000 cubic meters before the war to less than 120,000.
Israeli ceasefire violations on Monday killed five Palestinians and wounded others, including a girl. Another Palestinian also died from wounds previously sustained.
The ceasefire agreement, which took effect in October 2025 following negotiations mediated by the United States, Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye in Sharm el-Sheikh, stipulates an end to attacks on the Gaza Strip.
US President Donald Trump announced on July 31, 2026, that an agreement had been reached to activate the second phase of the plan, which includes the deployment of an international stabilization force, a phased Israeli withdrawal and the transfer of administration to a national committee.
The plan has faced obstacles, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s refusal to withdraw before the resistance is fully disarmed.
According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, more than 73,420 Palestinians have been killed and over 174,360 wounded since the war began in October 2023.
Since the ceasefire took effect, Israeli violations have killed 1,286 Palestinians and wounded 4,257 others, according to the ministry.
