WEST BANK, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Senior Hamas official Abdul-Rahman Shadeed has strongly denounced the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) for using a photograph of prisoner Ibrahim Hamed to intimidate Palestinian citizens detained and interrogated last night in the West Bank town of Silwad.
In press remarks on Wednesday, Shadeed called the incident a “psychological tactic designed to intimidate prisoners, their families, and the Palestinian society, expressing his belief that it sends a direct message of threat against detainees.
The Hamas official warned of mounting dangers surrounding prisoner Ibrahim Hamed in Israeli detention, holding the Israeli prison service fully responsible for any harm coming to him.
Late Tuesday night, Israeli forces stormed the village of Silwad in Ramallah, seizing some homes for military use and conducting mass field interrogations inside them, according to the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS).
During home raids, soldiers displayed a photo of prisoner Ibrahim Hamed while being shackled inside an isolation cell. They posted copies of the photo on interior walls and furniture of homes as a deliberate psychological method to intimidate families and those who were subjected to interrogation.
PPS reported that Israeli forces detained about 25 residents in Silwad, subjecting them to harsh questioning and physical abuse. Three of the detainees were subsequently rushed to the hospital after being assaulted by interrogators.
Prisoner Ibrahim Hamed, born in 1965 in the town of Silwad in Ramallah, is a noted Hamas official and a leading figure among Palestinian prisoners. He was kidnaped by Israeli forces in 2006 following an eight-year manhunt before he was handed down 54 life prison sentences.
