In a statement, Hamas said that the Israeli government “did not respond to any of the basic demands of its people and their resistance, which call for a comprehensive ceasefire, withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, the return of the displaced, and a real exchange of prisoners.”

The Movement held Benjamin Netanyahu and his “extremist government” fully responsible for obstructing all efforts to reach a ceasefire deal.

The Security Council voted 14-0 in support of the resolution with the US abstaining.

Later, Hamas issued a statement, saying it “welcomes the UN Security Council’s call for an immediate ceasefire,” and stressing the need for reaching a permanent ceasefire that leads to the withdrawal of all Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, and the return of the displaced to their homes.

“We also affirm our readiness to engage in an immediate prisoner exchange process that leads to the release of prisoners on both sides,” Hamas added.
