GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem said on Wednesday that escalating Israeli discussions about new plans to displace the population of the Gaza Strip underscore the seriousness of what he described as efforts to forcibly remove Palestinians by destroying the territory’s basic means of survival.
In a press statement, Qassem called on the Arab League to convene an urgent emergency summit to confront the dangerous plan that threatens not only the Palestinian people but also Arab national security. He said the proposal poses a direct challenge to Arab states, particularly Egypt, whose national security, he argued, would be directly affected.
Qassem said the current situation requires a unified Arab response that goes beyond statements of condemnation and translates into concrete political and diplomatic action aimed at preventing the displacement plan, ending the genocide in Gaza, bringing Israel’s military campaign to an end, and lifting the blockade on the Strip.
In a related statement, the Palestinian Resistance Committees criticized remarks by the so-called “Peace Council” suggesting there would be no role for UNRWA in a “new Gaza.”
The Committees said the comments reveal the council’s alignment with Israel, adding that plans for Gaza amount to a comprehensive project targeting both the Palestinian people and the Palestinian cause while reducing the conflict to a humanitarian aid issue.
