DOHA,(Palestine Foundation Information Center)Head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haneyya said at dawn Tuesday that his Movement delivered its response about a truce proposal to Qatar and other mediators.
In a brief statement, Haneyya added that Hamas is close to reaching a truce deal to be brokered by Qatar.
For his part, senior Hamas official Ezzat al-Resheq said there is significant progress in the ongoing mediation efforts to broker a truce deal.
Resheq affirmed that any deal in this regard would be in accordance with the Palestinian resistance’s preconditions, adding that Qatar and Egypt would announce the details of the truce agreement.
On Monday evening, the Israeli occupation government gave the green light to its negotiators to strike a deal intended to have Israeli captives in Gaza released and said it was awaiting a response from the Hamas Movement through mediators.
Early on Monday, spokesman for the White House John Kirby said the US administration continues to work on the release of Israeli captives in Gaza.
“We are close and hope that a deal can be reached, but there is still work to be done,” he said.
According to Israeli official estimates, some 240 people have been held in captivity in Gaza since October 7.
