RAMALLAH, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Palestine Center for Prisoners Studies has confirmed that the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) continues to kill Palestinian prisoners inside its prisons, pointing to the martyrdom of dozens of prisoners over the past three years.
The center said, in a statement issued on Monday, that the IOA killed 91 prisoners whose identities were announced, while concealing the fate of dozens of others from Gaza Strip, some of whom are believed to have been martyred during the first months of the war.
The center clarified that the names and circumstances of the martyrdom of prisoners from Gaza are subject to the crime of enforced disappearance, amid the continuation of banning prisoner visits since October 2023, including visits by the International Committee of the Red Cross.
It pointed out that this ban led to isolating the prisoners from the outside world and the absence of any knowledge of their incarceration conditions, confirming that reports, including Israeli reports, indicate that the number of killed prisoners is larger than the announced figures.
The center warned against the continuation of the series of killing inside prisons, in light of the continuation of its causes, primarily torture, starvation, medical neglect, and the severe conditions that prisoners are forced to live in.
It added that the IOA detains about 9,500 Palestinian prisoners in severe and inhumane conditions, including more than one-third detained without charge, while others are arrested because of posts or positions on social media sites.
It clarified that arrests affect everyone who criticizes the IOA policies or calls for its resistance or glorifies martyrs, including women and girls, and some face prison sentences for years.
The center warned of the martyrdom of new prisoners, especially the sick who suffer from serious diseases without appropriate treatment, and the elderly who need special care and suitable food.
It pointed out that dozens of prisoners need surgical operations that the IOA refuses to perform, while others need artificial limbs, wheelchairs, crutches, and assistive devices, amid the IOA procrastination in providing them, which exacerbates their suffering.
It added that Shin Bet officers practice, during interrogation rounds, severe and lethal torture methods to extract information, and use treatment, food, and sleep to pressure prisoners and push them to confess to what interrogators want.
It charged that these confessions are used to prepare indictments leading to prison sentences for long years.
The Palestine Center renewed its demand for urgent international intervention to protect prisoners from the danger of death inside prisons, stop policies of torture, abuse, and medical neglect, and compel the IOA to adhere to international law and human rights charters.
