GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), A Palestinian was wounded on Wednesday evening in an attempted assassination carried out by Israeli occupation forces (IOF) and officially acknowledged by Israel, marking another violation during the 14 days announced for completing implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
An Israeli military spokesperson claimed that an airstrike targeted the commander of a Hamas cell in the northern Gaza Strip.
The spokesperson also claimed that the Palestinian had been planning attacks against IOF troops operating in Gaza and was therefore targeted from the air.
Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip have declined since the Monday before last, following a meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Peace Council envoy Nikolay Mladenov. Airstrikes had stopped since then, while artillery shelling and live fire in areas near the Yellow Line have continued on a daily basis.
Israel has said it does not accept Mladenov’s roadmap, although it had stopped carrying out airstrikes in the Strip.
According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, 1,259 Palestinians have been killed and 4,148 injured since the ceasefire began on October 10, 2025 while 808 bodies have been recovered.
This brings the overall toll since the start of the Israeli offensive on October 7, 2023, to 73,388 Palestinians killed and 174,259 injured.
