Israeli authorities carry out demolitions in Jerusalem and West Bank

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) carried out demolitions and displaced families in Jerusalem today, Tuesday, and in recent days under the pretext of unlicensed construction.

According to media sources, the Israeli municipality forced Mohamed Abu Tair last Sunday to demolish his home in the village of Umm Tuba, southeast of Jerusalem.

According to the Jerusalem Governorate, the house sheltered a family consisting of a husband, wife, their five children, and the husband’s parents. The home measured about 100 square meters and was built in 2014.

Abu Tair also had to pay fines amounting to 45,000 shekels.

Meanwhile, the Israeli municipality also ordered, last Sunday, brothers Mohamed and Abdullah Mashahra to evacuate their homes in the town of Sur Baher in southeastern Jerusalem as a prelude to demolishing them. Their families will be rendered homeless as a result of the measure.

Jerusalemite homeowners find themselves forced to demolish their homes at their own expense in order to avoid paying the Israeli municipality exorbitant money in fines and demolition expenses.

This morning, the Israeli army demolished a house in the Arab al-Arara area near Jaba rotary, north of Jerusalem, claiming it was built without a permit.

According to Jerusalem sources, Israeli bulldozers, escorted by Israeli forces and officials from the army’s civil administration, stormed the area and started demolishing a house belonging to Mohamed Ara’ira.

The Israeli municipality also started in the morning to demolish a number of commercial and industrial facilities in the town of al-Ram in northern Jerusalem belonging to Palestinian citizens.

In Ramallah, Israeli forces with bulldozers demolished an agricultural and livestock facility in the town of Silwad belonging to Yusuf Hamed.

The rate at which Palestinian homes and structures are demolished in Jerusalem and the West Bank has almost doubled since the start of the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza in October 2023, human rights groups and monitoring organizations say.
