DAMASCUS, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) arrested three young men during an incursion into the Quneitra countryside in southern Syria, on Monday as part of ongoing violations since December 2024.
According to Syria’s official “Al-Ikhbariya” channel, “IOF soldiers arrested three young men from the town of Jbata al-Khashab in northern Quneitra while they were collecting firewood.”
This comes despite the announcement on January 6 of a communication mechanism between Syria and Israel, under US supervision, aimed at coordinating information exchange, reducing military escalation, and fostering diplomatic engagement and commercial opportunities.
The IOF continues, on an almost daily basis, to repeatedly shell Syrian territory, carry out ground incursions, particularly in Quneitra and Daraa countrysides, arrest civilians, set up checkpoints to search and interrogate passersby, and destroy crops.
Since 1967, Israel has occupied most of the Syrian Golan Heights. It exploited the ousting of Bashar al-Assad’s regime on December 8, 2024, to declare the collapse of the disengagement agreement signed between the two sides in 1974, and to occupy the Syrian buffer zone.
Syrians say that the continuation of Israeli violations limits their ability to restore stability and obstructs government efforts to attract investment aimed at improving the economic situation.
