Occupied Palestine – Israeli lawmaker MK Keti Shitrit has introduced a bill to double the penalty of Palestinians who throw stones and Molotov cocktails towards Israeli occupation forces and settlers.
“Israel” Hayom newspaper reported that the bill would be submitted on Sunday to the Knesset’s Ministerial Committee for Legislative Affairs.
The newspaper added that the bill provides for doubling the penalty of stone and Molotov cocktails’ throwers to reach a minimum sentence of four years in prison.
At the present time, the newspaper pointed out, the penalty of those who throw stones at settlers’ vehicles reaches up to two years.
The bill is an additional test for the government coalition, particularly for the Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked, who previously presented a similar one in 2015, so it will be difficult for her to oppose the bill, the newspaper said.
It’s noteworthy to mention that stones and Molotov cocktails throwing have been a symbol of Palestinian resistance against the Israeli occupation since the first Intifada. They are routinely used by the Palestinian people in response to Israeli crimes and abuses.
