GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The association of private transport companies in the Gaza Strip has warned that the continued Israeli ban on vehicle and truck spare parts, engine oil, and maintenance supplies threatens to paralyze Gaza’s transport sector.
“The private transport sector has long been operating under exceptional conditions, with trucks pushed to their limit while lacking basic maintenance,” head of the association Nahid Shahiber said in recent remarks.
Shahiber explained that minor mechanical issues, which are normally fixed quickly, now force trucks out of service entirely because replacement parts are unavailable.
Shahiber noted that the oil shortage is as critical as the spare parts crisis, as engine and gearbox lubricants are vital for keeping trucks functional.
He added that delaying routine oil changes or using unsuitable substitutes due to supply shortages could cause severe engine breakdowns, rendering vehicles permanently unserviceable or requiring complex and expensive repairs.
He called on international organizations and humanitarian groups to act swiftly to meet the transport sector’s urgent needs.
