Israeli settlers seize historic al-Basha building in Jerusalem after Palestinian families evicted

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Extremist Jewish settlers recently took over a historic building belonging to the Jerusalemite al-Basha family in the heart of Jerusalem’s Old City, following an Israeli court ruling that ordered the eviction of six Palestinian families living there.

The al-Basha family lost the historic Old City property after an eight-year legal battle against what they described as a “biased Israeli judicial system.”

Located at the intersection of the Old City’s al-Wad and al-Barquq streets, the historic al-Basha property is a heritage landmark renowned for its traditional Jerusalem stone architecture and classic doors and windows.

The al‑Basha family had lived in the property for nearly a century before its residents were forcibly evicted last week under claims that it belonged to Jews prior to 1948.

Immediately after the eviction, settlers changed the locks of the building, raised Israeli flags on its front, and fixed the religious symbols on its entrances.
