BEIRUT, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The Israeli army on Tuesday escalated its attacks across large areas of southern Lebanon, carrying out a series of airstrikes, artillery shelling, explosions and ground operations targeting towns and their outskirts in the districts of Tyre, Marjayoun, Bint Jbeil and Nabatieh. The attacks were accompanied by land-clearing operations, the construction of earthen barriers and machine-gun fire.
Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that the Israeli attacks were concentrated around the towns of Mansouri, Majdal Zoun, Tayr Harfa, Mays al-Jabal, Markaba, Bani Hayyan, Ainata, Beit Lif, Zawtar al-Sharqiya and Mayfadoun. Airstrikes and shelling sparked fires in several of the targeted areas.
Israeli military activity was not limited to aerial and artillery attacks. Ground operations included bulldozing land, erecting earthen barriers, troop movements and machine-gun fire, reflecting the continuation of Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon despite agreements intended to curb the escalation.
In one incident linked to the ongoing hostilities, a Lebanese civilian was injured by the explosion of an object left behind from the war. The incident highlighted the continuing danger posed to civilians in areas that have witnessed extensive military operations and bombardment, particularly as explosive remnants of war remain scattered across several locations.
The escalation comes at a time when conditions in southern Lebanon were expected to enter a period of greater calm following the Lebanese-Israeli agreement reached through US mediation on June 26.
The agreement calls for a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory, accompanied by the deployment of the Lebanese army in areas vacated by the Israeli military. The arrangement was intended to consolidate calm and strengthen the Lebanese state’s control over its territory.
However, the continuation of Israeli airstrikes, shelling and ground operations has placed the agreement under sustained pressure, as attacks across southern Lebanon continue to cause material damage, fires and risks to civilians.
The latest developments come amid an ongoing Israeli offensive against Lebanon that began on March 2, 2026, and has resulted in large numbers of casualties and widespread displacement from affected areas, according to Lebanese authorities.
Official Lebanese figures show that 4,348 people have been killed and 12,307 others injured since the offensive began, while more than one million people have been displaced as military operations expanded and caused widespread destruction and damage to residential areas.
With renewed bombardment and continued Israeli military activity across southern Lebanon, border communities remain in a fragile security situation as residents await the implementation of the agreement, particularly the Israeli withdrawal and deployment of the Lebanese army, which would allow civilians to return to their communities and reduce the dangers posed by further escalation and explosive remnants of war.
