RAMALLAH, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), An international civil initiative called the Palestine Convoy is preparing to launch a large-scale land mobilization toward the Palestinian territories, with the participation of more than 500 activists, rights advocates and parliamentarians representing around 30 countries.
The move comes as part of an international campaign aimed at showing solidarity with the Palestinian people in the West Bank and calling for an end to the war and siege imposed on the Palestinian territories.
Part of the convoy is scheduled to depart from Srebrenica in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with 17 buses, dozens of vehicles and ambulances taking part in a land journey expected to last nearly 20 days.
The convoy will pass through several Balkan countries, Türkiye, Iraq and Jordan before reaching the West Bank, as an extension of the global grassroots movement known as the Global March to Gaza.
Hüseyin Durmaz, coordinator of the Turkish delegation, said in a press statement that the convoy aims to draw attention to the genocide in Gaza while stressing that crimes witnessed throughout history must not be forgotten.
He said more than 500 activists would take part in the journey, which seeks to reach Palestine through Türkiye, Iraq and Jordan.
Organizers chose Srebrenica as the convoy’s starting point because of its historical symbolism. In 1995, the city witnessed one of the worst acts of genocide in Europe since World War II.
Those behind the initiative said the choice was intended to highlight what they describe as crimes committed against Palestinians and to connect past humanitarian tragedies with what is currently taking place in Palestine.
Participants in the convoy are raising several demands, foremost among them an immediate end to the war, an end to the siege imposed on the West Bank, accountability for those responsible for violations before international courts, and an end to the occupation and settlement expansion in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
Participants also plan to organize awareness events and meetings in the countries through which the convoy passes to mobilize further international support for the Palestinian cause.
Organizers say the main goal is to keep Palestine and the events unfolding there at the top of the international community’s agenda and to strengthen global grassroots solidarity with Palestinians amid the ongoing war and worsening humanitarian conditions.
