GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Israeli prison guards and officers recently abused Palestinian female detainees by forcibly removing their headscarves, beating them, and firing tear gas in cells and bathing areas, according to the Asra Media Office (AMO).
AMO said on Monday that several prisoners, including a pregnant woman, suffered health complications as a result.
AMO explained that an Israeli male officer forced female detainees to remove their headscarves to inspect their hair, compelled them to undo their braids, and locked up 17 of them in isolation cells, describing what happened as a “violation of their privacy.”
AMO added that Israeli soldiers also forced several detainees to lie face down on the ground for an hour and beat them before taking them to teargas-filled cells.
Jailers also sprayed pepper spray into a room holding 15 female detainees, including elderly women, causing several to vomit. One detainee was carried out of the room after collapsing, while another lost her ability to walk, according to the rights group.
AMO called for urgent and necessary measures to protect Palestinian women from abuses and violations in Israeli jails and ensure they receive adequate medical care.
