Spain welcomes 20 Palestinian children from Gaza for urgent medical care

GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Spain has welcomed 20 Palestinian children from Gaza, accompanied by their families, as part of the sixth medical evacuation mission from the Strip to receive treatment in Spanish hospitals.

Spanish Health Minister Mónica García announced the children’s arrival in a post on X, saying they were “leaving behind the brutality of life” in Gaza to receive the medical care they need. She added that they arrived “carrying fear, but also hope,” describing their reception as “a source of national pride.”

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said that no child should have to endure the horrors unfolding in Gaza. He noted that Spain is currently hosting 100 Palestinians, including the 20 children and their families, for medical treatment, describing their care as a moral duty while reaffirming their right to return home safely.

The evacuations come amid Spain’s continued opposition to the war in Gaza. Madrid has taken a series of diplomatic and political measures, including calling for the suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, recalling its ambassador from Tel Aviv, restricting activities linked to the Israeli military, and urging accountability for human rights violations.

Relations between Madrid and Tel Aviv have become increasingly strained since Spain officially recognized the State of Palestine in May 2024, a move that was followed by reciprocal diplomatic measures and growing tensions between the two governments.
