GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The “Global Sumud Flotilla” aiming to challenge the blockade on the Gaza Strip has reached international waters off the coast of Greece, days after departing from Italy, organizers said on Wednesday.
The Sumud Flotilla is expected to rendezvous in the coming phase with additional vessels sailing from ports in Türkiye and Greece. The goal is to consolidate the convoy before heading toward its final destination near Gaza.
Spokespeople for the flotilla said the mission is proceeding according to the planned timeline for what they call “Spring 2026 Mission,” despite mounting political and legal pressure from international actors seeking to obstruct its progress. The vessels are carrying activists from 39 countries.
Organizers estimate that the convoy could reach areas close to Palestinian territorial waters within the next few days, provided it is not intercepted at sea.
The Global Sumud Flotilla is a civilian initiative launched in 2025 by activists and civil society organizations from multiple countries. Its stated objective is to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and challenge the Israeli blockade, which has remained in place amid ongoing conditions widely described by rights groups as genocide.
Previous attempts by similar maritime convoys have ended with vessels being intercepted and participants detained by Israeli navy.
