RAMALLAH,(Palestine Foundation Information Center)The Hebrew media has revealed that two Palestinian prisoners from Gaza died recently in Israeli jails.
The Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) confirmed on Monday that detainee Majed Ahmed Zaqoul, one of the Gaza workers who was detained by Israeli forces following the start of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip on October 7, died in the Israeli prison of Ofer.
In a joint statement, the Commission and PPS said the Israeli prison service (IPS) concealed the crime of killing prisoner Zaqoul, 32, until Israeli media revealed his death.
According to the statement, Zaqoul moved to the West Bank three years ago and was suffering from cancer. He went to work in 1948-occupied Palestine six months ago, as did thousands of Palestinians. Zaqoul is married with one child, and his family lives in Gaza.
According to testimonies of Palestinian workers who were released several days ago by the Israeli occupation authority through the Kerem Abu Salem crossing, Zaqoul had been exposed to excruciating torture, similar to what happened to detainees Omar Daraghmeh and Arafat Hamdan, who were also killed as a result of torture in Israeli jails last month.
The Commission and PPS also quoted the Hebrew media as saying that another Gazan worker was also killed in the Antot military base, without stating his name.
IPS continues to detain dozens of Gazans, including workers, and refuses to reveal any information regarding their number, their identities, places of detention, and health conditions.
The Commission and PPS voiced their fears over the fate of those detainees, especially in light of the horrific testimonies recently given by released workers.
