GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The Asra Media Office (AMO) said Tuesday that Dr. Marwan al-Hams was beaten and restrained at the Ganot detention facility on October 7 in the presence of far-right Israeli security minister Itamar Ben Gvir.
As a result of the assault, Dr. al-Hams is suffering from bone fractures and severe back pain, requiring urgent medical attention given the severity of his injuries.
AMO described the crackdown and violence that happened at the Ganot prison on October 7 as the “harshest treatment recorded against Gaza detainees.”
AMO called for urgent international action to protect Dr. al-Hams and all prisoners and detainees held in Israeli jails, and to ensure they receive immediate medical treatment.
Dr. Marwan al-Hams is a Palestinian physician from the Gaza Strip who served as director of field hospitals at Gaza’s health ministry and as a ministry spokesperson.
He became widely known during the war for his work in Gaza’s overwhelmed healthcare system.
Dr. al-Hams was kidnaped by Israeli forces on July 21, 2025 while being on a work-related visit near a field hospital operated by the International Committee of the Red Cross in the al-Mawasi area of Khan Yunis. Reports said at the time that a special force kidnaped him and killed a journalist accompanying him.
