HAIFA, , (The Palestine Information Centre)The wife of Palestinian prisoner Walid Daqqa has described the health condition of her husband as “not easy but stable,” adding that his health has improved slightly.
Daqqa’s wife, Sana Salameh, explained in press remarks on Monday that her husband is still under medical supervision, but he needs regular follow-up visits from his family in order to reduce the danger of his exposure to possible medical neglect.
Salameh pointed out that she would be allowed next Thursday to visit Daqqa.
She also said that the family intends to file an appeal to the Israeli high court of justice against the court decision that rejected last Sunday a request for his husband’s release.
She expressed her belief that the court refusal to release her husband was decided at the behest of far-right security minister Itamar Ben Gvir.
Prisoner Daqqa was arrested by the Israeli occupation forces in 1986 for allegedly being involved in the killing of an Israeli soldier and was sentenced to 37 years in prison, which he completed in March 2023. However, he is currently serving a separate two-year sentence over allegations of smuggling cellphones into prison.
