Demolition campaign expands as Israel destroys West Bank structures

WEST BANK, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Israeli authorities on Tuesday forced a resident of the Jalazone refugee camp, north of Ramallah, to demolish his own business.

According to local sources, Yasser Al-Shani, a resident of Jalazone, was ordered to carry out the self-demolition of his sweets shop after the deadline set by Israeli authorities expired. His attorney informed him that Israeli forces could enforce the demolition order at any time if he did not comply.

In a separate incident, Israeli forces demolished residential and agricultural structures Tuesday in the village of Azzun Atma east of Qalqilya in the occupied West Bank.

Fathi Ghanem, head of the Azzun Atma Village Council, said Israeli forces raided the Wadi Abu Younis (Wadi Ar’our) area south of the village and began demolishing structures spread across approximately 20 dunums. The facilities, which had been in the area for more than 25 years, served 22 families.

Ghanem said the demolished structures included sheep pens, agricultural storage facilities used for livestock feed and farming equipment, and residential shelters. All were built using steel frames and corrugated metal sheets. He estimated the initial financial losses at hundreds of thousands of Israeli shekels.

He added that the area lies within Area C of the occupied West Bank, where Israel maintains full civil and security control under the Oslo Accords. According to Ghanem, the area has faced ongoing pressure from Israeli authorities because of its proximity to the settlements of Emmanuel and Gilad, both built on land belonging to the village. He noted that the affected families had previously received evacuation notices.

Ghanem said the demolished structures belonged to members of the Al-Jahalin, Hamadin, and Saray’ah families. He added that the demolitions left the affected families without shelter or a source of income, as they had relied on sheep farming and agriculture for their livelihoods.
