Gaza Eye Hospital struggles to provide full services amid war and shortages

GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Dr. Hussam Dawoud, director of Gaza’s Eye Hospital, has warned of a severe collapse in medical services caused by acute supply shortages and the ongoing Israeli attacks, leaving the facility unable to restore full operations.

In a statement on Sunday, Dr. Dawoud explained that the surgery department at the Eye Hospital has resumed work at a limited capacity, with only one and a half operating rooms functioning out of the three that were fully operational before the war.

Dr. Dawoud pointed to severe shortages of surgical tools, medical consumables, and vital equipment, appealing to the international community and humanitarian organizations to facilitate the entry of fuel, spare parts, and medical needs.

He affirmed that Gaza’s health sector is under unprecedented pressure, with the eastern wing of the Eye Hospital destroyed by nearly 70 percent since the war started.
