IRGC says it targeted US military base in Kuwait in retaliation for strikes

TEHRAN, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Monday it targeted an air base hosting US forces in Kuwait, hours after American strikes hit Iranian sites, marking a new escalation amid increasingly complicated efforts to reach a permanent ceasefire.

Iran’s Fars news agency quoted the IRGC as saying it had struck the air base “from which the US military aggression against Sirik Island was launched,” after Kuwait announced it had intercepted “hostile attacks.”

The IRGC warned that “if the aggression is repeated, the response will be completely different.”

Media reports said sirens sounded in Kuwait, while the Kuwaiti army announced that it had intercepted missile and drone attacks.

The escalation followed a statement by US Central Command (CENTCOM), which said it had carried out “defensive strikes” against Iranian radar, command and control sites linked to drones in Goruk, in Iran’s southern Hormozgan province, and on Qeshm Island.

CENTCOM claimed the strikes, carried out on Saturday and Sunday, were precise and measured, and came in response to what it called Iranian aggression, including the downing of a US MQ-1 drone that Washington said was flying over international waters.

It also claimed that US fighter jets destroyed Iranian air defenses, a ground control station and two one-way attack drones that it said posed a clear threat to ships passing through regional waters.
