Jerusalem Families Ordered to Tear Down Their Homes by Israeli Authorities

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) forced, on Monday, Palestinian families in east Jerusalem to demolish three homes in the towns of Silwan and Beit Hanina, citing construction without permits.

According to the Jerusalem Governorate, Hani Salaymeh started emptying his home and his parents’ home in the Wadi Qaddum neighborhood of Silwan as a prelude to demolishing them after receiving ultimatums from the Israeli municipality.

Salaymeh’s 100-square-meter home was built in 2002 and housed his wife and four children. His parents’ nearby home was built over an area of 60 square meters.

In the Ashqariya neighborhood of Beit Hanina, Alaa al-Rajabi was forced to demolish his home with his own hands after being notified of a demolition order issued by the Israeli municipality.

On Tuesday morning, the Israeli municipality completed the demolition of homes belonging to the Abdullah family in the Sheikh Anbar neighborhood of al-Tur town after forcing their owners to carry out the demolition themselves yesterday.

Hundreds of Jerusalemite homes are threatened with demolition or appropriation as part of Israel’s Judaization plans in the occupied holy city.

The Jerusalemites have no choice but to build without licenses because there are no structural maps that respond to the natural increase in their numbers.

The IOA also imposes building restrictions on the Palestinian natives in east Jerusalem and makes it hard for them to obtain construction licenses.

Israel’s systematic demolition of Palestinian homes in the holy city is believed to be aimed at psychologically destroying the Jerusalemite families in an attempt to force them to move from the city.
