UMM AL-FAHM, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Israeli policemen shot and killed a young Palestinian who allegedly attacked an officer after a car chase near the Arab city of Umm al-Fahm on Thursday afternoon.
The Umm al-Fahm municipality condemned the killing of Alaa Mahameed, 38, holding police responsible for his death and demanding an independent commission to “probe the circumstances of the incident.
Accounts of the shooting conflict sharply. While Israeli police claim Mahameed attacked an officer, local sources and his family contend he was shot after being stopped and handcuffed.
According to local reports, Mahameed suffered from mental health issues and had previously received medical care, raising questions over the police response and the use of live fire during his detention.
