GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The son of Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya, Azzam, was martyred on Thursday morning, succumbing to injuries from an Israeli strike the previous day.
Local sources reported that Azzam al-Hayya died from critical wounds sustained in an Israeli airstrike that targeted him in Gaza City’s al-Daraj neighborhood last night.
Sources added that Azzam died at 10:00 a.m. today in Al-Shifa Hospital, where he underwent surgery in an attempt to save his life.
Another citizen, identified as Hamza al-Sharbasi, was also martyred in the same strike that targeted the Hamas leader’s son.
Crowds of people in Gaza City marched in Azzam’s funeral procession, chanting slogans in honor of martyrs and the resistance.
Khalil al-Hayya is Hamas’s chief negotiator in ongoing mediated talks over Gaza. Azzam is the fourth of his sons to have been killed in Israeli attacks.
