46 sick and wounded Gazans leave for Egypt

GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) Another group of sick and injured Gazans left for Egypt through the Rafah border crossing for medical treatment on Sunday, a Palestinian medical source told Anadolu news agency.

The crossing was reopened on Saturday after more than eight months of Israeli closure.

“Some 46 Palestinian patients and wounded individuals, alongside their companions, left Gaza through the Rafah crossing,” the source told Anadolu.

He said cancer patients made up the majority of people who crossed the terminal on Sunday.

According to the source, around 50 patients and injured individuals will leave Gaza every day for treatment under the supervision of the World Health Organization.

On Saturday, media reports said that around 50 patients, mostly children, left Gaza, marking the first departure of Palestinian passengers through the Rafah crossing since its closure in May 2024.

On January 19, the first six-week phase of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement between Hamas and Israel went into effect, halting over 15 months of genocidal war that has killed more than 47,500 people and injured about 111,500 others since October 2023.
