WEST BANK, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The Palestinian Center for the Defense of Prisoners has launched a media campaign titled “Who Is Next?” following the death of Palestinian detainee Imad Sarhan inside an Israeli prison.
According to the organization, Sarhan is the 90th Palestinian prisoner to die in Israeli custody since the outbreak of the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza nearly two years ago, and the 327th prisoner martyr recorded since 1967.
In a statement issued Thursday, the center’s director, Lina Al-Tawil, said the campaign is intended as a warning and an urgent appeal to the international community, stressing that continued silence over conditions inside Israeli prisons could lead to more prisoner deaths.
Al-Tawil explained that the title “Who Is Next?” reflects growing fears that additional detainees, particularly those suffering from illness, could die amid systematic medical neglect and escalating abuses inside Israeli detention facilities.
She said Sarhan’s death raises urgent questions about the fate of sick prisoners, warning that conditions inside the prisons have become a serious threat to their lives.
According to the center, Palestinian detainees are facing an unprecedented escalation in punitive measures, including isolation, starvation, physical assaults, and denial of medical treatment. Al-Tawil said these practices place hundreds of ill prisoners at constant risk and effectively turn their medical conditions into “delayed death sentences.”
The week-long campaign will focus on highlighting the health and humanitarian conditions of sick detainees, documenting their daily suffering, and drawing attention to medical neglect inside Israeli prisons.
The center called on international organizations, including the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and human rights groups, to take urgent action to protect sick Palestinian prisoners, pressure Israeli authorities to halt alleged abuses, and ensure detainees receive adequate medical care.
