CAIRO, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), A Hamas delegation headed by Zaher Jabarin, the Movement’s West Bank chief, arrived in Cairo on Tuesday morning for talks with Egyptian officials and mediators on completing the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.
Taher Al-Nunu, political adviser to the head of Hamas’s political bureau, said the delegation’s priorities include ending escalating Israeli violations in the Gaza Strip, halting daily killings and assassinations, and ensuring that Israel allows the full entry of Gaza’s essential needs.
These needs include materials required to repair hospitals, bakeries and infrastructure, as well as the implementation of the remaining provisions of the Sharm el-Sheikh agreement, Al-Nunu said.
He added that the talks would also continue discussions on a roadmap prepared by Nickolay Mladenov, the Director-General of the United States-backed Board of Peace and High Representative for Gaza, in cooperation with the mediators for the second phase of the agreement.
The roadmap covers the deployment of an administrative committee and international protection forces, leading to a complete Israeli withdrawal from all areas of the Gaza Strip.
“We are serious about reaching an agreement that ends the suffering of our people, halts the occupation’s crimes and makes progress toward restoring our people’s political rights, foremost among them freedom and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state,” Al-Nunu said.
