BEIRUT, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), At least 11 civilians, including children, were martyred in airstrikes targeting southern Lebanon at dawn Thursday, the second day of Eid al‑Adha.
According to media sources, an ambulance crew from the Islamic Medical Association recovered three martyrs from beneath the rubble of an apartment struck by an Israeli aircraft in the Qaya’ah area of eastern Sidon.
An Israeli drone targeted a family in the Nabi Sari area of Zahrani district as they attempted to flee to safety, killing six people, including children.
In the city of Tyre, an Israeli drone struck a motorcycle on the road near the popular housing area, killing two people.
Israeli warplanes also launched a series of airstrikes on several towns in southern Lebanon.
Eyewitnesses told Anadolu that the strikes focused on residential areas and main roads, with powerful explosions reported in multiple towns.
Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation army announced the killing of a female soldier from the Givati Brigade and the injury of two other soldiers, one seriously, in drone strikes that occurred Wednesday near the border with Lebanon.
In a related context, far‑right Israeli finance minister Bezalel Smotrich called on Thursday for the destruction of buildings in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, in response to drone counterattacks launched by Hezbollah against Israeli military targets.
Smotrich made the remarks amid growing concern within Israel over the effectiveness of Hezbollah’s drones, which Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu recently described as a “major threat” due to the difficulty of detecting and intercepting them.
Israeli officials have acknowledged in recent weeks the inability of Israel’s defense systems to fully counter the booby‑trapped drones that Hezbollah launches towards army positions and northern settlements.
Smotrich wrote in a post on X that the only way to protect soldiers is to destroy 10 buildings in Beirut’s suburbs for every Lebanese drone, and 100 buildings for every drone that injures a soldier.
